The Manufacturing and Industrial Management group has a long research pedigree that goes back to the 1980’s with the first developments of computer models and experimental setups for metal forming processes. In the past 30 years the group evolved in order to cover a broader range of topics comprising mechanical and thermal processing of materials, polymer and ceramic material processing and lean, agile and life cycle approaches to manufacturing.
The activities of the group are focused on production engineering and we are at the forefront of design, optimization and management of forming, cutting, welding and joining, and additive manufacturing processes and machines. Research is aimed at developing new manufacturing processes, applying existing manufacturing processes to new materials and identifying new level of understanding on selected manufacturing processes that allow predicting process behavior across the useful range of operating conditions.
